Tim Offer Architects have recently started work on a new project in Newton Ferrers, South Hams. We are developing designs to make an existing coastal home better for entertaining and family life. We have been looking carefully at the existing house and its location, to make sure that our changes make the most of its spectacular location.
The house sits up on the steep sided bank of the River Yealm and enjoys great views over the estuary. It also backs onto an ancient woodland in the South Hams AONB.
We are really looking forward to working closely with the clients to develop the scheme further and make the most of their beautiful home.
Coastal architecture in the South Hams
Its always lovely to work in beautiful locations on our South Devon coast, in and around Newton Ferrers, Kingsbridge, Dartmouth, Salcombe and Wembury. It is always important to maximise the location in these projects. We always look to develop connections between outside and in, and create great access to views of the water. However, it’s also important to create some variety too. Not every room needs the panorama of the sea, and we like to create a journey through our projects, with spaces with different characters and personalities. This makes each room special and distinctive, and allows the rooms with a privileged view to be even more special. How you get to a destination is as important as the destination itself.
Newton Ferrers (from the visit south devon website)
Newton Ferrers is a little slice of tranquillity just 10 miles from the urban sprawl of Plymouth. Surrounded by ancient woodland and creeks, the village of Newton Ferrers sits on the banks of the beautiful Yealm estuary. It’s a hidden gem packed with wildlife and has a secret, tranquil atmosphere. If you’re looking for thatched cottages and a lovely village pub in the centre, then this village is everything you’d expect from a picture postcard idyll.
